Ingredients

Marinade Ingredients

  • 2 to 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce Adjust if your soy sauce is salty
  • 1 tablespoon calamansi juice or lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon salt Adjust if your soy sauce is salty
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • pinch sugar Optional for balance

Tilapia Preparation

  • 4 fillets red tilapia Pat dry before preparation
  • cornstarch or rice flour For coating
  • cooking oil For spraying or brushing

Instructions

Marination

  • In a bowl, combine minced garlic, soy sauce, calamansi or lemon juice, salt, black pepper, and sugar to create a marinade.
  • Add the tilapia fillets to the marinade, ensuring they are well-coated. Marinate for 15 to 25 minutes.

Preparation

  • Pat the marinated fish dry with paper towels to ensure crispiness.
  • Coat each fillet with a thin layer of cornstarch or rice flour.
  • Spray or brush a little oil on the coated fillets.

Cooking

  • Preheat the air fryer for about 3 minutes.
  • Place the tilapia fillets in the air fryer basket in a single layer, ensuring they have space between them.
  • Cook at 380°F to 400°F for 10 to 14 minutes, flipping halfway through for even crispiness.
  • Ensure the fish flakes easily and is golden brown before removing it.

Notes

Serve with steamed rice, ensaladang talong, and a vinegar dip for an authentic meal. For best results, do not crowd the air fryer basket. Cooking in batches is recommended for maximum crispiness.
