For the Fish

  • 2 pieces bangus fillets, boneless (frozen or thawed) Boneless is easier to eat, especially for kids.
  • to taste salt and pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder Optional
  • 1 teaspoon paprika or chili powder Optional for color and mild kick
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1-2 tablespoons milk or water To loosen the egg
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs or panko Panko recommended for extra crunch
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch or all purpose flour Helps the egg stick

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your air fryer for 3 minutes at 380°F.
  • If using frozen bangus, air fry for 3-5 minutes at 360°F to soften, then pat dry.
  • Season both sides with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika if desired.
  • Coat the fish lightly with cornstarch or flour, then dip in the beaten egg.
  • Press into breadcrumbs or panko, ensuring an even coat.
  • Spray or brush a little oil on top for browning.

Cooking

  • Place the breaded fillets in the air fryer basket in a single layer.
  • Air fry at 380°F for 10 minutes.
  • Flip the fillets carefully, spray the tops lightly with oil again and cook for an additional 6-8 minutes.
  • Check for doneness: the fish should be opaque and flaky, with a golden-brown crust.

Notes

Let the fish rest for 2 minutes after cooking for extra crispiness. Use panko breadcrumbs for the best texture. Serve with hot rice and a simple condiment like soy sauce or vinegar.
